The DeVoses Keep Things Tight
Dick DeVos is a well known Republican in the state of Michigan and beyond. In 2006, Dick DeVos ran for governor of the state of Michigan, and he and his wife Betsy DeVos have been constantly involved in donating and lobbying for the GOP. Betsy DeVos, was appointed the secretary of education during the Trump administration; this appointment made the DeVos family become even more well known in the political arena. Dick DeVos has a love for his home state of Michigan, and he is dedicated to making positive changes for the city. At one point, there was talk of building a multi-purpose sports and convention center in the Grand Rapids downtown area. Dick DeVos remembered the disaster that happened with the Pontiac Silverdome and Palace of Auburn Hills in the 1970s, and he did not want a similar fate to befall his beloved city. DeVos worked with a group that he formed called “the Grand Action,” and the group put a stop to the construction project.

Apart from just the city of Grand Rapids, Dick and Betsy DeVos have donated over $130 million to different charities through their family foundation. Apart from the generous donations that they have made to the needy, Dick and Betsy DeVos also donated to help with the $103 million construction of the Children’s Hospital in Michigan that occurred in 2006. The DeVoses donated more than $12 million to that building. This hospital allows local families to bring their children to a hospital that is nearby. The DeVoses have continued in their efforts to improve the state of Michigan and also to improve the education system in the US. Even when they face challenges and setbacks, the DeVoses continue on with their strategy to sway the public towards their opinions and philosophies.
