Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez bases his success on finding the right people. The Venezuelan businessman who started in the oil and gas industry was born in 1962. The oil and gas industry are competitive and not easy to break into, but Alejandro Betancourt was determined to do so. He started his own company; Hawkers was founded in 2013 by brothers Alejandro and David Moreno and their friends Iñaki Soriano and Pablo Sanchez. Hawkers sunglasses are designed in the U.S. but made in China; the company is based in both Washington and Beijing. Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez’s first job was at a bank, but instead of doing that, he worked as an investment analyst for Citibank in Venezuela and managed residential properties. However, they weren’t successful careers, so Betancourt quit them to start Hawkers.
Hawkers use factories that work with non-governmental organizations to make their glasses. The company has manufactured over 7 million glasses since it was founded in 2013 and has sold more than two million. Betancourt’s company is based in Washington, D.C., but Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez has traveled across the globe to promote Hawkers. He visited a Hawkers factory in Vietnam in 2016, where he met people from different countries from various cultures that work together to create Hawkers products that are popular worldwide. Before founding, Hawkers Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez worked at Citibank for two years, and for two years, he worked for an investment advisory firm. He was also a real estate agent and managed residential properties. At Citibank, he managed real estate portfolios, oil and gas properties, and other assets. Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt Lopez is also involved with several non-profit organizations. He serves as an advisor to Cáritas Venezuela, an organization that provides food to the poor with little or no money. Betancourt’s Hawkers is just one of the companies contributing to this effort.
Hawkers sunglasses are prevalent in 11 countries worldwide and have been featured on international television news programs and magazines such as Elle, Esquire, and Vogue. Hawkers started in 2013 as a sunglasses company focusing on sustainability with different materials used for their lenses and frames. Today Hawkers produces eyewear for women, men, and children, eyewear sunglass frames, and sunglasses.
