Sudhir Choudhrie’s experiences in business and work in the global economy
Sudhir Choudhrie was born in 1949 (Delhi, India). He was raised in a middle-class family. He completed his schooling at Shanti Path High School and later obtained a degree in commerce from the University of Delhi. After his graduation, he worked in various small business ventures in Delhi before setting up his own company, Sudhir Choudhrie Enterprises, in 1981. The company became one of India’s largest real estate developers.
Sudhir has been active in international business, diplomacy, philanthropy, and politics since he immigrated to the UK in 1985. He is a director of large companies in the UK, including the Gitanos Group. Sudhir Choudhrie is a prominent figure in the entrepreneurial community, having served as the Chairman of the UK-based Overseas Development Institute (ODI) throughout its inception in 1993. He was also a member of the ODI’s Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2017. In 2000, Sudhir co-founded the ODI to ” engage in strategic partnerships between businesses and the development community.”
Sudhir is the co-founder and co-chairman of the Choudhry Group, a leading diversified international business conglomerate with interests in the healthcare, aviation, hospitality, and international sectors. The Choudhry Group has interests in the healthcare, aviation, hospitality, and international sectors and has operations in more than a dozen countries. It is the largest diversified company in the healthcare sector in the UK. The Group is listed on the BSE and the NSE.
Sudhir is also a trustee of the Sainsbury Family Foundation, the largest private Foundation in the UK. In addition to his work with the Choudhry Group, Sudhir is the London School of Economics trustee. That’s where he has been a trustee since 1971. His family’s charitable organization has funded research into preventing cardiovascular diseases in the United States.
